Research Study Focuses on Birth Weight of Multiples
TelAve News/10867682
FRANKLIN, Tenn. - TelAve -- Who doesn't love a rerun? Taking time to revisit a favorite storyline or catch another look at familiar characters adds brightness to any day.
But Multiples of America is looking to reruns for another purpose. They're hoping a revisit of a previous organizational survey will provide comparison data about changes over time in the birth weight of multiples and the medical complications their mothers encounter during pregnancy.
Multiples of America reissued it's rerun, an updated version of the survey "Birth Weight of Multiples," in March 2025. The survey, which mirrors studies under the same name conducted in 1986 and 2006, asks respondents to answer 14 questions. Those questions collect information about multiples' gestational age and weights at birth, the type of multiples, and medical complications during pregnancy. The answers will yield significant information, according to Diane Graves, Research Coordinator for Multiples of America.

"At Multiples of America, research is at the heart of how we advocate for and support families with multiples," she noted. "The Birth Weight of Multiples Research Study is a vital step in understanding the unique health outcomes of twins, triplets, and higher-order multiples. By gathering and analyzing this data, and comparing it to our past two surveys of the same topic, we hope to provide clearer guidance to parents and healthcare providers, and contribute to long-term improvements in perinatal care for multiples."
Any parent or guardian of multiples may complete the study; membership in the organization is not required. Access is through the Multiples of America website, https://multiplesofamerica.org/birthweight_research/.
This study, once completed, will become part of the collection of organizational research conducted by Multiples of America over six decades. Other studies have focused on topics such as post-partum depression, marriage and multiples, early intervention services, financing college, and more. Multiples of America also assists researchers, physicians, education professionals, and other multiple-birth organizations worldwide in completing research. Some of the organization's latest research partnerships seek to gather information concerning multiple pairs of a different color, marital decisions in twin populations, and multiples with autism.
