Rocky Mount Founder Builds Virtual Reality Bible Experiences After Receiving Divine Directive

ZionSphere, developed in Rocky Mount, NC, introduces a multi-platform VR experience designed to immerse a new generation in biblical storytelling.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - TelAve -- ROCKY MOUNT, NC — Starkey Roberson will be the first to tell you: ZionSphere was not his idea.

Roberson, a B2B technology builder who spent years developing software at the intersection of business and faith, did not arrive at virtual reality biblical experiences through market research or a pitch deck. He arrived through obedience.

"The Holy Spirit was specific," Roberson said. "Build virtual reality experiences around biblical stories. That was the directive. I didn't question it. I built."

What followed was a focused period of multi-year development from Rocky Mount, North Carolina — a city in the eastern part of the state more often associated with tobacco and textiles than deep-tech platforms. Roberson built ZionSphere anyway: a multi-platform virtual reality faith experience spanning VR, Web, iOS, and Android, launching publicly in Summer 2026.

The platform's launch title, Jonah & The Whale, places users inside a first-person VR experience where they navigate the darkness of the whale's belly, search for fragments of Jonah's prayer, and trigger deliverance through repentance. The experience is designed not as entertainment, but as a spiritually immersive encounter — one that asks the user to participate in Scripture rather than observe it.

"We are living in a moment where an entire generation has grown up not sitting still for anything," Roberson said. "They don't watch. They enter. ZionSphere was built for that generation — and built from a belief that God's Word belongs in every space where they already live."

ZionSphere's platform features 13 biblical story experiences, 37 spiritual milestone badges, and a proprietary content management system developed in-house. The platform is currently available on VR, Web, iOS, and Android, with a full public launch planned for Summer 2026.

Roberson, who is Black, built ZionSphere from Rocky Mount without venture capital, coastal resources, or the kind of institutional backing most deep-tech founders rely on. He funds it through mission-aligned donors, church partnerships, and a conviction that he is building what he was asked to build.
