RTLS Alliance Ecosystem and Healthcare Engineering Alliance Society Announce Strategic Partnership
TelAve News/10890020
The RTLS Alliance Ecosystem partners with HEALS to integrate location intelligence into healthcare engineering education, professional development, and cross-disciplinary collaboration, addressing the growing need for engineering expertise in deploying real-time location systems across healthcare facilities.
WASHINGTON - TelAve -- The RTLS Alliance Ecosystem and Healthcare Engineering Alliance Society (HEALS) today announced a strategic partnership to advance the integration of real-time location systems (RTLS) fundamentals into healthcare engineering education and professional development.
Hospitals worldwide rely on RTLS for asset tracking, workflow optimization, staff safety, and patient monitoring. Yet many healthcare engineers first encounter these systems only during deployment, leading to design challenges, integration friction, and missed opportunities for operational efficiency.
Through this partnership, the organizations will collaborate to develop and share vendor-neutral RTLS educational content tailored for healthcare engineering students, faculty, and practicing professionals. The effort focuses on improving understanding of RTLS system design, interoperability, and integration within complex healthcare environments.

Industrial-scale RTLS deployments—operationally proven at organizations such as BMW, Toyota, General Motors, DENSO, Philips, Arconic, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory—provide practical insight into how location systems perform at scale. The collaboration brings this cross-industry perspective together with HEALS's established network in healthcare engineering education and professional practice, guided by academic and industry leaders from leading institutions.
Professor Ming-Chien Chyu, Founding President of HEALS, University Professor and "Father of Healthcare Engineering":
"From an engineering education perspective, real-time location systems are now part of the operational backbone of modern hospitals—yet they remain largely absent from formal curricula. As a result, many engineers encounter RTLS for the first time during live deployments, when design tradeoffs and integration decisions are hardest to correct. This partnership enables us to strengthen the connection between engineering fundamentals and real-world healthcare systems, helping prepare engineers to design facilities that are safe, efficient, and resilient."
Rafaele Mallmann, Co-Founder of the RTLS Alliance Ecosystem:
"Healthcare is a high-stakes environment for RTLS, but education has not always kept pace with deployment. Working with HEALS allows us to share cross-industry experience in a way that supports healthcare engineers as they design, implement, and maintain complex systems critical to clinical operations."
