SafecomLink 5G-AI-ALE: Automatic Link Establishment that Stays Active for the Life of the Link

TelAve News/10907918
NEW YORK - TelAve -- SafecomLink today announces 5G-AI-ALE, a next-generation automatic link establishment capability built directly into the SafecomLink protocol whose role continues for as long as a link stays open. It reads the beacons and calls that a SafecomLink station already sends and hears, uses that history to pick the frequency most likely to link to a given station, and drives the connection through automatically, without a separate ALE radio, waveform or sounding schedule. Once two stations are linked, 5G-AI-ALE keeps working: it tracks the link's performance in real time, and if that performance drops below a set threshold, it automatically negotiates a new frequency and moves the link there, without an operator having to act, keeping a usable link running until the session ends.

How it differs from classic ALE

Automatic link establishment has existed for decades under two military standards: second generation, or 2G ALE (MIL-STD-188-141), and third generation, or 3G ALE (MIL-STD-188-141C, also standardized as STANAG 4538). Both scan a shared list of channels and score them using a dedicated ALE controller and its own sounding transmissions, separate from the modem that carries the actual traffic. Once a classic ALE controller hands the link to that modem, its job ends; it does not keep managing the link while traffic is moving.

5G-AI-ALE instead reads the beacons and general calls that SafecomLink stations already exchange as part of normal operation. An onboard machine-learning model turns that history into a ranked list of frequencies for a specific station, then calls down that list automatically until one answers, using the same modem link that carries the traffic itself. Its role does not stop there. For as long as the connection lasts, it continues to track link performance, and when performance degrades past a set point, it moves the link to a better frequency on its own, so the link keeps working from the moment it opens to the moment it closes. This continuous, in-link role, working throughout the connection rather than only at the start of it, is what sets 5G-AI-ALE apart from classic ALE, which establishes a link and then steps aside.
