ATLANTA - TelAve -- Science, Engineering and Mathematics Link Inc. (SEM Link) will kick off its STEM at the Park workshop series with an urban birding workshop, Exploring Georgia Birds on Saturday, September 26, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Westside Park in Atlanta located at 1660 Johnson Rd, NW. Youth and their families are invited to attend.

At the opening workshop, wildlife biologist Corina Newsome will lead attendees on a walk through the park. The group will take a closer look at birds, including their behavior, their habits and the species found right here in Georgia.

The STEM at the Park workshop series is part of SEM Link's Community STEM Program. It gives youth and their families "field" experiences, where they take part in hands-on activities that explore earth and environmental sciences. Additional workshops will be announced in the coming months.

"Earth and environmental sciences are STEM disciplines that impact our everyday lives, but youth aren't often exposed to them," said Ms. Tokiwa T. Smith, SEM Link Founder and Executive Director "The STEM at the Park workshop series allows youth to learn about the world around them through hands-on exploration of the earth and their environment. When young people get outside and explore alongside scientists, they begin to see themselves in these fields. That exposure can inspire the next generation to pursue careers that study and protect our environment."
