S.M.A.R.T. of Flagler County Responds to Major Dog Rescue: 67 Dogs Now Under Care

TelAve News/10896649
PALM COAST, Fla. - TelAve -- S.M.A.R.T. (Saving Missing Animals Response Team) of Flagler County, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is providing emergency care and placement support for 67 dogs following an escalating rescue that began with a large-scale dumping case two weeks ago.

Volunteers responded to reports of dogs left along the roadside and worked late into the night—until about 1:30 a.m.—to locate, secure, and transport dogs to safety.

"We watched people show up and risk their own lives to help get these dogs safe," said Caroline Johnson, Founder of S.M.A.R.T. of Flagler County.

S.M.A.R.T. initially took 16 dogs into care. This week, the same family surrendered an additional 51 dogs, bringing the total to 67.

S.M.A.R.T. thanks community partners for rapid response and support, including City of Palm Coast Animal Control, East Coast Animal Hospital, and the Flagler County Sheriff's Office and St. Johns County Sheriff's Office. This remains an active investigation; S.M.A.R.T. cannot comment on investigative details.

All dogs are receiving needed veterinary care, and many are moving into foster homes as they stabilize. S.M.A.R.T. expects dogs from the first group rescued will be the first ready to meet potential adopters.
