Spokane: Flags Lowered for Peace Officers Memorial Day

TelAve News/10896264
~ Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown has issued a directive to lower flags at all City facilities to half-staff on Friday, May 15, in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day. This decision aligns with Governor Bob Ferguson's order for state and U.S. flags to be lowered at all state buildings on the same day.

According to Communications Director Erin Hut, Mayor Brown believes it is important to remember and honor peace officers who have lost their lives or been disabled while serving their communities. This year's recognition holds special significance as Spokane County Sheriff Sergeant Kenneth (Ken) Salas will be honored. Sgt. Salas tragically lost his life while assisting with a traffic hazard on Interstate 90.
