Building on the excitement of being selected as a Team Base Camp during the FIFA World Cup 2026™, partners from across Spokane on Thursday announced a community-wide "Summer of Soccer" campaign.

The Summer of Soccer is a celebration of the world's game that will unite residents, businesses, and visitors across Spokane. Led by the City of Spokane, Spokane Sports, and Visit Spokane, this community-wide campaign will embrace the sport of soccer across the greater Spokane area through the Official SeattleFWC26 Fan Zone, youth soccer camps, the Spokane Summer Classic, and even a community branding toolkit for local businesses and restaurants to get in on the action.

"Being selected as both a host city to Team Egypt and a designated SeattleFWC26 Fan Zone are incredible honors. We want to make the most of this moment," Mayor Lisa Brown said. "The Summer of Soccer is about bringing people together and celebrating sport, culture and community pride."

"From event production to community activation, Spokane Sports is proud to help bring the Summer of Soccer to life. This is an opportunity to create memorable experiences for residents, visitors, and fans while showing what Spokane can deliver," said Ashley Blake, CEO, Spokane Sports.

"Visit Spokane is proud to have collaborated on citywide promotion and partnerships that connect fans and local businesses to Spokane's Summer of Soccer, helping drive visitor spending throughout the community. Working closely with the City of Spokane, we played a vital role in securing our designation as a base camp for Team Egypt, creating opportunities for longer stays and broader economic impact across the city," said Rose Noble, CEO, Visit Spokane.

City of Spokane Neighborhood Activation

More on TelAve News
To fully embrace this unique moment, the City of Spokane is advancing programs and city-sponsored opportunities to encourage activation, get people out to enjoy parks, support local businesses, and connect with their neighbors. These efforts include:
  • Expanded Outdoor Alcohol Service: Authorized by the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board, Spokane is taking advantage of a temporary program that allows restaurants, bars, and breweries to expand alcohol service in outdoor spaces.
  • Outdoor Cafe Table Sets: Spokane is piloting a program this summer to provide additional outdoor dining opportunities in downtown Spokane. The City of Spokane will provide an outdoor cafe table set to interested businesses with sufficient space for placement of a set adjacent in the public right-of-way.
  • Block Party Kits: Spokane's Play Streets Program allows residents to apply for a free permit to temporarily close non-arterial streets for neighborhood play and community events. Those looking to host a Play Streets & Neighborhood Block Party can check out the necessary street closure equipment from the Spokane Public Library. These kits include Type II Barricades, "Road Closed Ahead" signs, "No Left Turn" and "No Right Turn" signs, "Side Street Closed Ahead Signs," and traffic sign stands.
