~ Spokane, WA- Mayor Lisa Brown has announced the appointment of Stephen Williams as the new Director of Emergency Communications for the City of Spokane. In this role, Williams will lead the development of the city's new emergency communications center, known as the Spokane United 911 Network (SUN).

With over 25 years of executive experience in public safety operations and technology, Williams brings a wealth of knowledge to his new position. He has previously served as the Director of Emergency Communications & Citizen Services for the City of Virginia Beach and as Chief of Operations for Washington, D.C.'s Office of United Communications. Most recently, he has been working on designing and launching an emergency response and security center in Saudi Arabia.

Williams also has relevant technology experience, having worked for companies such as Hexagon and Prepared 911. His extensive background in both public safety operations and technology made him a standout candidate during a competitive recruitment process that included a selection committee representing the Spokane Police Department, Spokane Fire Department, and relevant labor organizations.

Mayor Brown expressed her confidence in Williams' abilities, stating that "the City of Spokane is looking forward to having Stephen on the team." She believes his leadership will be crucial in establishing a strong foundation for the future of emergency communications in the city.

Williams is set to begin his role in early February. His appointment comes at a critical time as the city works towards improving its emergency response capabilities with the creation of SUN. With his expertise and experience, Williams is expected to play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of Spokane's residents.
