TelAve News/10873882
~ Construction to Begin on Rockwood Boulevard Project, Street Closure and Reduced Parking Expected

Spokane, WA- The City of Spokane's Public Works department has announced that construction work will commence on Tuesday, Sept. 2, just south of Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center and Children's Hospital. The project, which is expected to be completed in mid-October, will involve the rehabilitation of the pavement with a grind and overlay, as well as a redesign of the intersection of Rockwood Blvd. and Cowley St. and 10th Ave.

In addition to these improvements, utility work will also be done as part of the project. Outdated water main pipes will be replaced and a section of the sewer and brick catch basins will be repaired.

To facilitate this work, there will be some changes in traffic patterns and parking availability in the area. Starting on Tuesday, Sept. 2, Rockwood Blvd. between Grand Blvd. and Cowley St. will be condensed. However, north/south traffic will still be able to access Rockwood Blvd at the Sumner Ave./10th Ave intersection.

For east/west through traffic, Sumner Ave./10th Ave will be closed between Grand Blvd. and Sherman St., while 9th Ave. will have one lane open in each direction for access to the healthcare employee parking garage.

On-street metered parking will not be available on 9th Ave between Grand Blvd. and Cowley St., as well as on Rockwood Blvd between Grand Blvd. and Cowley St.

Pedestrians may also experience sidewalk detours during this time but local access to businesses in the area will still be maintained.

The City urges drivers to slow down for everyone's safety during this construction period and make an extra effort to support businesses that may be impacted by these necessary improvements.

The City of Spokane and the Public Works department apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank the community for their patience and cooperation during this project.
