Spokane: SPD arrests man who assaulted a woman who got out of her car to help him
TelAve News/10831986
~ Spokane, WA- On the morning of June 8th, Spokane Police Department received a report of a possible assault at the intersection of Napa St. and Trent Ave. According to witnesses, a woman was driving northbound on Napa St. when she saw a man stumble across the road and fall in the middle of traffic. Concerned for his safety, she called 911 for assistance.
Upon arrival, officers learned that the woman had stopped her car at a red light and offered to help the man who had approached her vehicle asking for water. Another driver also stopped and handed the woman a bottle of water to give to the man.
However, things took a dangerous turn when the man ran from the road and into a concrete wall before falling to the ground. The woman went over to offer assistance but was suddenly attacked by the man who began strangling her. The other driver intervened and managed to pull the suspect off of her.

The woman quickly got into her car and drove away with the suspect chasing after her. The male driver who helped her also joined her in her car as they drove away from the scene. Officers noted injuries on the woman's neck consistent with strangulation.
The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Robert M. Fisher, was still at the scene when patrol officers arrived. He was arrested for second-degree assault and taken to a local hospital before being booked into Spokane County Jail where he remains at this time.
Julie Humphreys, Public Safety Communication Manager, commended both drivers for their quick thinking and bravery in helping prevent further harm to the victim. She also reminded citizens to always be aware of their surroundings and call 911 if they witness any suspicious or dangerous behavior.
At this time, no further information has been released regarding Fisher's motive or relationship with the victim. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with additional information is urged to contact Spokane Police Department.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of public safety and the role that community members play in keeping their neighborhoods safe. The victim's quick thinking and the assistance of the other driver helped prevent a potentially tragic outcome.
