~ Spokane Fire Department Truck Involved in Accident While Responding to Fire Alarm
This morning at 9:14, Spokane Fire Department's Truck 13 was responding to a fire alarm when it was involved in an accident. According to Spokane Fire PIO Justin de Ruyter, the truck lost traction while descending a hill at West Rowan Avenue and West Fleming Place. The truck then slid down the street and collided with a home in the 3500 block of North Greenwood Blvd.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported from the incident. The home was occupied at the time of the accident, but a city engineer inspected the property and deemed it safe for continued occupancy. However, Truck 13 sustained significant damage and will be out of service until repairs can be completed.
In response to the original fire alarm, firefighters requested Engine 16 to assist. However, while attempting to access the residence, Engine 16 also lost control on the same hill and slid into two unoccupied vehicles before coming to a stop. Again, there were no injuries reported from this incident.

The Spokane Police Department responded to assist with the investigation into both accidents. The Spokane Fire Department expressed gratitude that no one was harmed despite these incidents.
Images released by the department show extensive damage to Truck 13 and moderate damage to the two vehicles involved in the second accident.
At this time, it is unclear when Truck 13 will return to service. The department is working diligently to make necessary repairs and ensure that all equipment is safe for use. In the meantime, Engine 16 is expected to return to service later this afternoon.
The cause of both accidents is still under investigation by authorities. Anyone with information about these incidents is urged to contact Spokane Fire PIO Justin de Ruyter at jderuyter@spokanecity.org.
The Spokane Fire Department reminds all drivers to exercise caution when driving on hills or in inclement weather conditions. Safety is their top priority, and they are grateful that no one was injured in these accidents.
