Springfield, Mo. ~ On Saturday, August 23, a multi-jurisdictional effort led by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) resulted in the arrest of 27 impaired drivers in Springfield, Missouri. The Springfield Police Department, Greene County Sheriff's Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and eight other local agencies joined forces for a 10-hour saturation patrol.
Using marked patrol vehicles, officers targeted hazardous moving violations commonly associated with intoxicated driving. A total of 419 vehicles were stopped during the patrol, resulting in the arrest of 27 impaired drivers. In addition to these arrests, nine individuals were taken into custody for illegal drug possession or outstanding warrants. The efforts also led to the recovery of one stolen vehicle and the location of one missing person.

The Springfield Police Department played a significant role in this operation, conducting 27 vehicle stops and arresting six impaired drivers. They also issued 43 citations and eight warnings to drivers and made one arrest for an outstanding warrant.
Law enforcement officials are reminding the public that the consequences of impaired driving are severe and can include jail time, loss of driving privileges, mandatory use of ignition interlocks, and increased insurance rates. Financial losses such as attorney fees, court costs, lost time at work, and even job loss can also result from drunk driving.
Authorities urge individuals to always have a plan for getting home safely if they plan on consuming alcohol. The risks associated with drunk driving are not worth it. This saturation patrol was made possible through a grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation Traffic and Highway Safety Division.
