Springfield, Mo. ~ Springfield Police Department Offers Additional Testing Opportunities for Potential Recruits

The Springfield Police Department is making it easier for potential recruits to join their ranks by offering additional testing opportunities on Friday, Sept. 12, and Saturday, Sept. 13. This decision was made in order to accommodate candidates with varying work schedules. Interested individuals must submit their applications by Friday, Sept. 5.

In addition to the increased testing opportunities, the SPD is also offering attractive incentives for new recruits and experienced officers looking to transfer. New recruits can earn a $5,000 hiring incentive while experienced officers can receive a $10,000 hiring incentive. Furthermore, new officers with existing student loan debt can benefit from a student loan reimbursement plan upon successful completion of the required academy training.

The police academy for new recruits consists of six months of paid, in-house training followed by 16 weeks of on-the-job field training. During this time, recruits will earn an annual salary of $56,825 which will increase to $63,128 upon graduation.

For experienced officers looking to join the SPD, there is a six-week paid program called the lateral police academy that prepares them for the transition to the department. The full salary scale for sworn police officers ranges from $63,128 to $93,246.

Recruitment for the 81st academy is currently ongoing and is scheduled to begin in February 2026. Interested individuals can visit GoSPD.com for more information and to apply online.
