~ Springfield Police Department Warns Against Fraudulent Shop with a Cop Solicitors

The Springfield Police Department (SPD) has issued a warning to the citizens of Springfield regarding fraudulent solicitors claiming to collect donations on behalf of local law enforcement for the annual event, Shop with a Cop. According to the SPD, a third-party company has been asking for donations, but they want to remind the community that they are not involved in any such fundraising efforts.

The local Shop with a Cop program, which provides underprivileged children with the opportunity to shop for holiday gifts with police officers, is fully funded and sponsored by Wal-Mart, Inc. While there may be legitimate organizations soliciting donations for this cause, the SPD has not endorsed or partnered with any of them.

The department acknowledges the generosity of the community but urges caution when donating to any organization or individual that has not been directly contacted or verified as legitimate. In case of any suspicious activity, citizens and businesses are advised to report it to SPD at 417-864-1810.
