Springfield: SPD honors and welcomes two new officers
TelAve News/10871405
Springfield, Mo. ~ On Friday, December 16, the Springfield Police Department (SPD) welcomed two new officers into their ranks. Officer Rudy Rodriguez graduated from the 21st Lateral Police Academy and Officer Damiun Walker returned to SPD after previously resigning in 2021.
Officer Rodriguez joins SPD with six years of experience from the Long Beach Police Department in California. He also served in the U.S. Marines for six years and was deployed to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. In addition to his extensive experience, Rodriguez holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Grantham University.
"I am excited to join the community in Springfield," Rodriguez stated. "When I was looking for a place to raise my family and serve as an officer, Springfield was the perfect fit."
As a lateral officer, Rodriguez attended an abbreviated academy at the Springfield Regional Police and Fire Training Center where he received six weeks of training (240 hours) to become familiar with Springfield and SPD's procedures. After graduation, he will undergo six weeks of on-the-job training with an experienced field-training officer before being assigned to SPD's Uniform Operations Bureau.

Officer Walker also brings valuable experience and education to SPD. He previously graduated from the 66th Springfield Police Academy in 2015 and holds a bachelor of science degree in economics from the University of Arkansas. Although he resigned from SPD in 2021 to pursue other opportunities outside of law enforcement, Walker ultimately decided to return to policing and has been welcomed back by his colleagues.
Police Chief Paul Williams expressed his congratulations to both officers on behalf of the entire department. "We are thrilled to have Officer Rodriguez join our team and welcome back Officer Walker," Chief Williams said. "Their experience and dedication will be valuable assets as we continue our mission to serve and protect the community."
The SPD also shared a photo of their newest officers alongside Chief Williams on their social media platforms. The department encourages community members to download the full-size image and join them in welcoming Officers Rodriguez and Walker to Springfield.
