Automaker's only manufacturing facility outside of Japan reaches milestone in 38th year
LAFAYETTE, Ind. - TelAve -- Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA) has produced its 6 millionth Subaru vehicle, a 2025 Subaru Legacy Limited in Cosmic Blue Pearl. The sedan was driven off the assembly line on June 25 at approximately 6:30 a.m. ET.
"This milestone is a powerful reminder of how far we've come over the past 38 years," said Scott Brand, president and chief operating officer of SIA. "I'm incredibly proud of our associates and the consistent dedication they bring to exceeding our customers' expectations for safe, high-quality vehicles."
SIA is Subaru's only manufacturing facility outside of Japan and currently assembles the Ascent, Crosstrek, Legacy and Outback models. It produces about half of all Subaru vehicles sold in North America.
"Our associates have every reason to take great pride in this achievement," said Brand. "They've weathered a number of industry challenges in recent years with resilience, never losing sight of their commitment to excellence."
With a Legacy as SIA's 6 millionth Subaru vehicle, the milestone is bittersweet. Production of the sedan will end this fall, at the conclusion of the 2025 model year.

The Legacy was designed for the American market and, with its debut on Sept. 11, 1989, became the first Subaru manufactured in the U.S. at SIA. The first-generation model began a new era for Subaru with a competitive mid-sized sedan and wagon that featured sleek styling and advanced technology. The Legacy Wagon eventually became the foundation for the Subaru Outback.
Since its debut, Legacy models sold in the U.S. have been assembled at SIA. In total, the seven generations of the Subaru Legacy have racked up over 1.3 million sales in the U.S. Though the Legacy is the longest-running Subaru model line, its discontinuation reflects market shifts from passenger cars to SUVs and crossovers and Subaru's transition to electrified and fully electric vehicles.
U.S. production of the Subaru Forester will begin at SIA this fall, followed by the Forester Hybrid in the spring. SIA expects to produce its 8 millionth overall vehicle in November.
