Tacoma: Applicants Sought for the Transportation Commission
TelAve News/10897058
~ The Tacoma City Council is currently on the lookout for individuals to fill five positions on the Transportation Commission. These positions include At-Large Nos. 1 and 2, as well as Council District Nos. 1, 4, and 5. All applicants must be residents of Tacoma and if their council district is unknown, they can visit the District Map to find out.
The main role of the Transportation Commission is to provide advice to the City Council on transportation-related matters. This includes short-term and long-range transportation planning, ensuring compliance with local, regional, and federal transportation regulations, and developing plans for bike, pedestrian, and mass transit initiatives. In the coming years, the commission will have a crucial role in guiding the implementation of updated Transportation and Mobility and Vision Zero Action plans.
The Infrastructure, Planning, and Sustainability Committee recommends potential members for the commission while final appointments are made by the City Council. The commission consists of eleven members in total - nine voting members appointed by the City Council representing each of the five council districts in Tacoma. The remaining two non-voting members are appointed by the City Manager. It is important that these members bring diverse perspectives and expertise to focus on achieving the city's long-term vision for mobility options.
