Tacoma: Lincoln Avenue Bridge to Close April 4 for Major Asphalt Repairs
TelAve News/10891846
~ Tacoma's Public Works Department has announced a temporary closure of a section of Lincoln Avenue and the Lincoln Avenue Bridge on Saturday, April 4, 2026. The closure, which will last from 6 a.m. to approximately 6 p.m., is necessary to facilitate large-scale asphalt repairs.
According to the Street Operations Division of the Public Works Department, this maintenance project is part of the Tacoma Streets Initiative, a 10-year, $325 million funding program approved by voters in November 2015. The initiative was aimed at addressing critical infrastructure needs and expired on December 31, 2025.
During construction hours, the Lincoln Avenue Bridge will be completely closed to all vehicle traffic. Detour routes will be in place to redirect drivers from Portland Avenue to Marc Avenue. However, access to local businesses will be maintained throughout the day.

Travelers attempting to reach destinations near the construction zone are advised to approach from either Portland Avenue or Port of Tacoma Road, depending on their location relative to the Puyallup River.
This closure is only the first phase of a two-day project. The second phase of repairs will take place on a separate Saturday, which will be announced at a later date.
Due to specific environmental conditions required for asphalt application, this work is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled if necessary. Any updates or changes in schedule will be posted on the City's website and social media platforms. Pre-construction signage in the area will also provide information about any changes.
Residents or business owners with questions about the road closure can contact Project Supervisor Thomas Adams at tadams@tacoma.gov or (253) 591-5870 for more information.
