Texas: Governor Abbott Amends, Renews Severe Storm Disaster Proclamation In May 2026
TelAve News/10895010
~ Governor Greg Abbott has declared a disaster in four counties in Texas due to severe storms that have caused widespread damage and danger to residents. The proclamation, issued on April 27, 2026, includes Lamar, Parker, and Wise Counties and has now been amended to include Palo Pinto County.
The severe storms, which began on April 24, 2026, have brought heavy rainfall, flash flooding, hazardous wind gusts, large hail, and tornadoes to the affected areas. This has resulted in significant property damage and poses a threat to the safety of residents.
In accordance with Section 418.014 of the Texas Government Code, Governor Abbott has declared a disaster in these counties and authorized the use of all available resources from state government and political subdivisions to cope with the situation. This includes Section 418.017 of the Texas Government Code which allows for the use of necessary resources during a disaster.

To ensure that necessary actions can be taken without delay or hindrance, Governor Abbott has also suspended any regulatory statutes or orders that may prevent or delay emergency response efforts. This suspension is effective upon written approval from the Office of the Governor.
Furthermore, any state statutes or administrative rules regarding contracting or procurement will also be suspended for the duration of this declared disaster if they impede emergency response efforts by state agencies.
As required by law, copies of this proclamation will be filed with relevant authorities. The Governor's proclamation was officially signed on May 1st at his office in Austin and attested by Secretary of State Jane Nelson.
Residents are urged to take necessary precautions and stay informed about updates from local authorities as they continue to deal with the aftermath of these severe storms.
