Texas: Governor Abbott Announces Additional SBA Assistance For Severe Storms
TelAve News/10896074
~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott revealed that the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved his request for a disaster declaration for additional Texas communities affected by last month's severe storms. The SBA has added seven counties - Calhoun, Dewitt, Goliad, Jackson, Lavaca, Refugio, and Victoria - to its declaration in addition to the North Texas communities that were approved for assistance last week.
Governor Abbott expressed his gratitude towards the Texas Division of Emergency Management for their efforts in ensuring that Texans have access to the necessary resources to rebuild their communities. He stated, "Texans across our state now have expanded access to more tools to recover from recent severe storms."
The SBA has granted access to its Home Disaster Loans, Business Physical Disaster Loans, and Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program. These low-interest loans will be available to qualifying homeowners, renters, and businesses in affected coastal communities following the severe storms and tornadoes that occurred at the beginning of May.
Applicants can apply online at sba.gov/disaster or call SBA's Customer Service Center at (800) 659-2955 for more information on disaster assistance. Those who are deaf or hard of hearing can dial 7-1-1 to access telecommunications relay services. Completed applications should be mailed to the U.S. Small Business Administration's Processing and Disbursement Center.

To further assist with the application process and address any questions about the disaster loan programs, SBA representatives will open a Disaster Loan Outreach Center starting May 18th at 104 South Williams Street in Victoria. The center will be open on weekdays from 9 AM - 6 PM.
Governor Abbott has been taking swift action to provide all available resources to support communities affected by severe weather. This includes seeking SBA assistance for coastal communities impacted by storms and announcing approval of SBA assistance for North Texas communities. He has also amended the state disaster declaration for severe weather to include affected coastal communities and directed TDEM to request joint preliminary damage assessments with local and federal officials in additional storm-impacted areas.
Furthermore, Governor Abbott has requested SBA assistance for affected North Texas communities, added Palo Pinto County to the state's severe weather disaster declaration, issued a disaster declaration for North Texas storms, and activated state emergency response resources ahead of severe weather risks.
With these efforts in place, Governor Abbott is determined to provide support and aid to all those affected by the recent severe storms in Texas. The SBA's approval of the disaster declaration for additional counties is a step towards helping these communities recover and rebuild.
