Texas: Governor Abbott Announces Departure Of PUC Chairman Lake

~ Today, Governor Greg Abbott accepted the resignation of Peter Lake as Chairman of the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUC). Lake had been appointed to the position in April 2021 and was responsible for overseeing the implementation of bipartisan reforms to the Texas electric grid following Winter Storm Uri.

Governor Abbott praised Lake's service to Texas, noting that he had helped rebuild trust in those charged with providing reliable power. He also thanked Lake for his tireless work in securing and strengthening the state's power grid.

The Governor will announce a new PUC Chairman in the coming days, with Lake's resignation taking effect immediately. He will remain a PUC Commissioner until July 1, 2023. The PUC is responsible for regulating electric, telecommunication, water and sewer utilities in Texas, as well as implementing respective legislation and offering customer assistance with resolving consumer complaints.
