Texas: Governor Abbott Announces Joint Preliminary Damage Assessments For Wildfires, Severe Storms

TelAve News/10896793
~ In a recent press release, Governor Greg Abbott announced that he has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to request assistance from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) in conducting preliminary damage assessments in Panhandle communities affected by wildfires and South Texas communities impacted by severe storms in April.

The purpose of these assessments is to determine if the state meets the necessary thresholds for additional federal disaster assistance. Governor Abbott stated, "Texas will provide all necessary resources to local officials, first responders, and emergency management teams as they respond to recent severe weather events across the state."

The governor's request for SBA officials to join state and local partners in conducting these assessments is a crucial step in providing financial relief for affected Texans. He also urged those who have been impacted by these events to report any damage to their homes or businesses through TDEM's iSTAT survey.

The Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT) survey allows affected individuals to self-report their disaster damage information. Texans are encouraged to use this tool when it is safe to do so by visiting damage.tdem.texas.gov. By submitting a damage report, state and local officials can better assess the extent of the disaster and determine what additional resources may be needed for impacted areas.

The information provided through the iSTAT survey also helps identify whether the state meets federal requirements for various forms of disaster assistance. Governor Abbott emphasized that together, Texans will rebuild and recover from these events with the help of all available resources.
