Texas: Governor Abbott Announces Joint SBA Preliminary Damage Assessments For Houston Apartment Complex Fire

TelAve News/10873878
~ In the aftermath of a devastating apartment complex fire in Houston's Spring Branch neighborhood last week, Governor Greg Abbott has taken swift action to aid those affected. The governor announced today that he has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to request assistance from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) in conducting joint preliminary assessments for damage sustained during the fire.

According to Governor Abbott, dozens of units are believed to have been impacted by the fire. These joint assessments with the SBA will help determine whether Texas meets federal thresholds for various forms of disaster assistance, which could provide much-needed aid for those affected in the Spring Branch neighborhood.

Expressing gratitude for the brave firefighters who battled the blaze, Governor Abbott stated, "Today, I directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to request joint preliminary damage assessments with the U.S Small Business Administration. This joint effort will help determine whether Texas is eligible for federal disaster assistance needed for Texans in the Spring Branch neighborhood to recover and rebuild."

Texans who have been affected by this fire are encouraged to submit a self-reported damage survey using TDEM's Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT). This online tool, available at damage.tdem.texas.gov, allows individuals to provide details about their damages and helps officials gain a better understanding of the extent of damage caused by the fire. It also assists in connecting Texans with available resources to aid in their recovery and rebuilding efforts.

As officials work together to assess and address the damages caused by this tragic event, Governor Abbott remains committed to providing support and resources for those affected in Houston's Spring Branch neighborhood.
