Texas: Governor Abbott Announces Latest Slate Of Appointments

~ This week, Governor Greg Abbott announced his selection of several qualified individuals to serve on various boards and commissions on behalf of the state of Texas.
For the Brazos River Authority, Governor Abbott appointed Lonnie Key, Stephen Luskey, and Jeff Tallas, while also reappointing Tom Abraham, Gary Boren, Jim Lattimore Jr., and Wesley Lloyd. These appointments are set to expire on February 1, 2031. Additionally, Brad Benham and Frederick "Fred" Dodd II were appointed to the Board for terms ending on February 1, 2029 and February 1, 2027 respectively. The Brazos River Authority is responsible for formulating plans related to the operation and management of the district's storm and flood waters as well as discovering and producing groundwater for its customers.
In another announcement, Governor Abbott appointed April Aguirre and Derek Cohen Ph.D. to the State Commission on Judicial Conduct for terms ending on December 31, 2029. He also appointed Andrew "Andy" Kahan, Tracy Harrison, and Yinon Weiss for terms ending on December 31, 2031. The Commission is responsible for regulating the conduct of state judges and has the power to recommend retirement or removal from office.

Lindsey Bowers was appointed by Governor Abbott to serve on the State Soil and Water Conservation Board until February 1, 2028. This board oversees Texas' soil and water conservation law and coordinates programs aimed at reducing pollution throughout the state.
Governor Abbott also selected Emily Groomer to serve on the Texas Early Learning Council until his pleasure. The Council serves as Texas' State Advisory Council under the Improving Head Start for School Readiness Act of 2007. Its goal is to improve coordination between state agencies and local service providers in order to enhance early childhood services in Texas.
Lastly, Governor Abbott appointed Pete Pape Ed.D. and Dan West to the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) of Texas Board of Trustees. Their terms will expire on August 31, 2031. The TRS Board of Trustees manages retirement and other benefits for teachers and employees of the state's public schools and institutions of higher education.
