~ Victoria College Receives Over $138,000 Grant for Workforce Training in Petroleum and Coal Manufacturing
Governor Greg Abbott has announced a significant investment in the workforce of Texas. On Friday, the Texas Workforce Commission awarded a Skills Development Fund grant of more than $138,000 to Victoria College. The grant will provide customized training in petroleum and coal products manufacturing to over 100 new and incumbent employees of Seadrift Coke.
In his statement, Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of investing in the state's workforce for the success of future generations. He declared expanding career training as an emergency item for this legislative session and expressed gratitude to the Texas Workforce Commission for their partnership with educational institutions across Texas.
TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel also highlighted the significance of this grant in creating a skilled workforce. He stated that programs like the Skills Development Fund are crucial in ensuring that Texas has talented workers to fill high-demand jobs.

The award was presented on Friday by TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Alberto Treviño III during a ceremony at Victoria College's Emerging Technology Complex in Victoria, Texas. Representatives from Victoria College, Seadrift Coke, and other local partners were present at the event.
During his State of the State Address on Sunday, Governor Abbott reiterated his commitment to expanding career training by declaring it an emergency item for the 89th Legislative Session.
The Skills Development Fund (SDF) is a workforce training grant program that aims to upskill new or incumbent employees. In collaboration with public community and technical colleges, workforce development boards, and Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service, TWC provides customized and innovative training to businesses of all sizes.
Since its inception in 1996, the SDF grant program has partnered with over 4,800 employers and created over 420,000 jobs throughout Texas by providing training opportunities. This latest grant to Victoria College is another step towards ensuring that Texans have access to better job opportunities and higher paychecks.
