~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott has appointed John E. Burt as the new Jasper County Criminal District Attorney. Burt, a resident of Buna, will serve a term that expires on December 31, 2026.

Burt brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having previously served as the 1st Assistant Criminal District Attorney for Jasper County. He also has experience as an assistant criminal district attorney in Newton County and as an attorney in private practice. In addition, Burt has held leadership positions in education, serving as both the assistant superintendent and superintendent of Buna Independent School District (ISD).

A member of the Texas District and County Attorneys' Association, Burt is well-versed in the legal system and has a strong understanding of the needs of his community. He also has a background in education, having served as the president of the Buna ISD School Board.

Burt's educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Physics and a Master of Education in Administration from Lamar University. He also holds a Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law.

With his diverse experience and impressive qualifications, John E. Burt is well-equipped to serve as the Jasper County Criminal District Attorney and uphold justice for his community.
