Texas: Governor Abbott Appoints Friedrichs, Nightingale To The Family Violence Criminal Homicide Prevention Task Force

~ Austin, TX- Governor Greg Abbott has recently announced the appointment of two individuals to the Family Violence Criminal Homicide Prevention Task Force. Andrew Friedrichs and Shari Nightingale have been selected to serve on the task force for terms that will expire at the pleasure of the Governor.

In addition to their appointments, Governor Abbott has named Friedrichs as the chair of the Task Force. As chair, Friedrichs will lead the task force in analyzing top risk factors that may lead to family violence criminal homicide. The task force will also provide advice and resources to state agencies and nonprofit organizations in order to improve training for professionals who interact with survivors of family violence.

One of the main responsibilities of the Task Force is to collect, analyze, and make publicly available information related to family violence criminal homicide. This information will be organized by region and used to develop policy recommendations that will assist the state in addressing this issue.

Andrew Friedrichs, a resident of Austin, brings a wealth of experience to his role as chair. He currently serves as the executive director for the Governor's Public Safety Office and previously held a similar position with the Commission on State Emergency Communications. Friedrichs also has a background in psychology, having received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Minnesota and a Master of Arts in Criminology from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.

Shari Nightingale, who resides in Katy, is retired from the healthcare field but remains dedicated to preventing family violence through her work with Lindsay's Light Dating Violence Prevention Program. She also serves as vice president for chaperones and purchasing on Katy High School Band Executive Board. Nightingale attended Victoria College and Houston Community College.

The appointments made by Governor Abbott demonstrate his commitment to addressing family violence criminal homicide in Texas. With experienced individuals like Andrew Friedrichs and Shari Nightingale leading the way, it is hoped that significant progress will be made in preventing these tragic incidents from occurring.
