Texas: Governor Abbott Appoints Gray To State Board For Educator Certification

~ Belton resident JoMeka Gray has been appointed by Governor Greg Abbott to serve on the State Board for Educator Certification until February 1, 2031. The Board is responsible for establishing certification and continuing education requirements, as well as standards of conduct for public school teachers.

Gray brings over 12 years of experience in education to her new role. She currently serves as the district and campus teacher leader at Kennedy-Powell STEM Elementary in Temple Independent School District (ISD). Prior to this, she taught first grade at Killeen ISD and kindergarten and first grade at Temple ISD. Gray's dedication to education is evident through her involvement on the Contemporary Relevance Committee and her membership in various teacher associations such as the Texas State Teacher Association, Texas Classroom Teacher Association, and National Education Association.

In addition to her work in education, Gray also volunteers with the Girl Scouts in Central Texas. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Louisiana Tech University and has received certifications in Early Childhood National Board Certification, Generalist (EC-6) Certification, and English as a Second Language Supplemental Certification. With her extensive experience and qualifications, Gray is well-equipped to contribute to the State Board for Educator Certification's important work.
