Texas: Governor Abbott Breaks Ground On $1 Billion Davie Defense Shipyard Modernization In Galveston

~ Governor Greg Abbott, alongside several government officials and industry leaders, gathered today in Galveston and Port Arthur to celebrate the groundbreaking ceremony for a $1 billion modernization project at Davie Defense's Gulf Copper Shipyards. This project marks the state of Texas' first complex shipbuilding endeavor in decades.
In his remarks, Governor Abbott emphasized the significance of this project as a representation of America's commitment to putting its own interests first. He stated that the country is in dire need of more ships and that Texas is proud to partner with Davie Defense to fulfill this need. The Governor also highlighted the importance of these ships being built in Texas, manned by American workers, and deployed to protect American sovereignty in the rapidly growing Arctic region.
The Governor also praised Davie Defense for their significant investment in expanding their shipbuilding facility, which will bring advanced defense manufacturing to Texas and create thousands of well-paying jobs. He noted that this expansion will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of the American homeland. The Governor credited Texas' business-friendly policies and highly skilled workforce for attracting such investments.

The Gulf Copper Shipyards' production facility is expected to generate approximately 2,400 new jobs, with an estimated statewide economic impact supporting nearly 7,000 jobs. This development was made possible through collaboration between various government agencies and private entities.
Among those present at the ceremony were U.S. Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought, Senator Ted Cruz, Congressman Randy Weber, U.S. Coast Guard Admiral Kevin Lunday, Galveston Mayor John Paul Listowski, Department of Homeland Security Deputy Secretary Troy Edgar, Davie Defense Co-Founder James Davies, Davie Defense Co-Founder Alex Vicefield, and Davie Defense CEO Philip Burns-O'Brien.
As construction begins on this monumental project, it is expected to bring significant economic growth and job opportunities to the state of Texas. Additional photos from the ceremony will be made available to the public.
