~ Houston, Texas - Governor Greg Abbott delivered a speech at the groundbreaking ceremony for Eli Lilly and Company's new active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing site at Generation Park in Harris County. This project, which is the largest investment in API manufacturing in Texas to date, is expected to create over 600 high-paying jobs.

In his remarks, Governor Abbott expressed his excitement about the project and its potential impact on the state's economy. "Today's announcement adds to Texas' record-breaking job growth and further strengthens our position as the best state in the country for business," he stated. He also highlighted how this investment by Lilly will expand Texas' dominance in healthcare and medicine production.

The Governor noted that Texas is already a national leader in pharmaceutical manufacturing, with Houston being home to the world's largest medical center. The addition of this new facility at Generation Park will only further solidify the state's position as a major player in the industry. The new jobs created by this project will also contribute to a broader life-sciences base in Texas that supplies medicines to patients across the country.

This project has been years in the making, with Governor Abbott first announcing Lilly's plan to build a 1 million-square-foot facility for domestic production of next-generation small molecule synthetic medicines back in September 2025. The company has committed over $6.5 billion towards this project and has received a $5.5 million grant from the Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF). Additionally, it has been approved under the Texas Jobs, Energy, Technology, and Innovation (JETI) program.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by various local leaders and community partners including Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis, Lilly Chair and CEO Dave Ricks, Lilly Houston Site Head Diane Tennenhouse, and San Jacinto College Chancellor Dr. Brenda Hellyer.
