Texas: Governor Abbott Renews Border Security Disaster Proclamation In January 2026

~ Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has renewed his disaster proclamation for a number of counties and state agencies affected by the ongoing surge of individuals unlawfully crossing the Texas-Mexico border. The proclamation, originally issued on May 31, 2021, was amended in subsequent proclamations to include additional counties and declare a state of disaster for those areas.
Under Section 418.014 of the Texas Government Code, Governor Abbott certified that the influx of individuals crossing the border posed an imminent threat of disaster for multiple counties and state agencies. This threat continues to exist and has been outlined in previous proclamations.
As such, Governor Abbott has exercised his authority to renew the proclamation and declare a disaster for Aransas, Atascosa, Bee, Brewster, Brooks, Caldwell, Calhoun, Cameron, Chambers, Coleman, Colorado, Crane, Crockett, Culberson, DeWitt, Dimmit, Duval, Edwards, El Paso,Frio,Galveston,Goliad,Gonzales,Hidalgo,Hudspeth,Jackson,

Governor Abbott has officially signed and sealed this proclamation at his office in Austin, Texas on January 17, 2026. It has been attested by Secretary of State Jane Nelson.
