Texas: Governor Abbott Renews Hurricane Beryl Disaster Proclamation In December 2024

~ On Friday, July 5, 2024, a disaster proclamation was issued by Governor Greg Abbott for the state of Texas. The proclamation was later amended on the same day and again on Saturday, July 6, 2024. This proclamation declared that Hurricane Beryl posed an imminent threat of disaster to several counties in Texas.
The affected counties included Anderson, Angelina, Aransas, Atascosa, Austin, Bastrop, Bee, Bell, Bexar, Bowie, Brazoria, Brazos, Brooks, Burleson, Caldwell and many others. The governor's proclamation stated that these counties were at risk of widespread and severe property damage as well as potential loss of life due to the hurricane's impact.
The hurricane was expected to bring heavy rainfall and life-threatening storm surge along with damaging winds. This posed a significant danger to the residents of these counties and called for immediate action.
In accordance with Section 418.014 of the Texas Government Code which grants the governor authority in times of disaster or emergency situations, Governor Abbott renewed the aforementioned proclamation. He also authorized the use of all available resources from state government and political subdivisions to cope with this disaster under Section 418.017 of the Texas Government Code.

To ensure swift response and relief efforts in this time of crisis, Governor Abbott suspended any regulatory statutes or orders that could hinder necessary actions in coping with this disaster under Section 418.016 of the Texas Government Code. This includes any state statutes or administrative rules regarding contracting or procurement that may impede emergency response efforts.
As per statutory requirements, copies of this proclamation were filed with applicable authorities. The governor's signature and official seal were affixed at his office in Austin on December 2nd ,2024.
This declaration serves as a call to action for all residents in these affected counties to take necessary precautions and follow evacuation orders if necessary. It also highlights the importance of preparedness during natural disasters and the role of government in providing aid and resources to those in need.
