Three Days Before Election, Meta Silences Florida Voter Account Over "Voting RED is voting PED" Meme

Meta Verified subscriber told "I am unable to escalate this case to a live agent"; FTC and Florida Attorney General complaints filed

COCOA BEACH, Fla. - TelAve -- On Oct. 31, three days before Election Day, Meta restricted the personal Facebook account of David Sherrer, a Cocoa Beach engineer and founder of the self-funded voter-information site DumpTrump.win, after its automated systems classified two anti-Trump voting memes as "child sexual exploitation."

One image is a red baseball cap reading "Voting RED is voting PED." It contains no child, no nudity and nothing sexual. Sherrer did not create either image; both are widely circulated memes he reshared. Meta's Account Status page states the photo "may show children in a sexual way." The restriction bars posting, messaging and ads on that account through Election Day, Nov. 3, and bars ads through Dec. 30.

Meta's billing records show the advertising account was charged $25,879 between Oct. 25 and Nov. 1, 2026, part of more than $39,000 spent on the account since July. Meta then took all four political campaigns out of delivery while continuing to bill the account.

Sherrer pays $14.99 a month for Meta Verified, which Meta markets as "24/7 access to email or chat agent support." When he asked for human review, Meta's support assistant replied, verbatim: "I am unable to escalate this case to a live agent."

"Meta took twenty-five thousand dollars of my advertising money in a single week, then an algorithm read the letters P-E-D and a school-crossing sign and decided a get-out-the-vote meme was child abuse, then a second algorithm told me no human would look at it before the polls close," Sherrer said. "Whatever Meta intends, the effect is that lawful political speech is suppressed in the only week it matters. I had the same experience in 2020, when it took lawyers to get reinstated while I was reaching 1.6 million people. I cannot prove intent. My personal view is that a company that benefits from this administration's tax policy is tilting the field before the midterms."

Sherrer has filed an addendum to his Federal Trade Commission complaint (Report No. 209404212) and a complaint with the Florida Attorney General, asking that Meta be required to provide human review of election-period enforcement against paid, verified accounts.
