TelAve News/10889913
University Press of Kansas marks a major milestone: 80 years of publishing books that inform public debate, deepen historical understanding, and elevate voices across Kansas and beyond.
LAWRENCE, Kan. - TelAve -- Established in 1946, UPK began with a clear mission to advance knowledge and serve the people of Kansas through scholarly publishing. Eight decades later, that mission remains steadfast. From award-winning works in American politics and presidential history to Civil War studies, Native American history, military history, and regional titles that celebrate the culture and landscapes of the Midwest, UPK has become a nationally respected voice in university press publishing.
"Reaching 80 years is not simply about longevity—it's about impact," said Kelly Chrisman Jacques, Director of the University Press of Kansas. "For eight decades, UPK has supported authors, brought rigorous scholarship to broad audiences, preserved essential histories, and championed ideas that shape how we understand our history, our region, and our public life. We are proud of our distinguished past and energized for the future."
