Update: Columbia Police arrest suspect in March 4 homicide on Allen Street

(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ On March 5, 19-year-old Damarius Kavanaugh of Columbia was arrested by the Columbia Police for his involvement in the shooting death of 20-year-old William Riechers. The incident occurred on March 4 in the area of Allen and Bryant streets.

Kavanaugh is facing multiple charges including second-degree murder, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon, and first-degree tampering with physical evidence. The arrest came after officers responded to a call about shots fired at approximately 3:48 p.m. on March 4. Upon arrival, they found Riechers with a gunshot wound and provided immediate medical assistance. However, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Missouri statutes, Kavanaugh's charges fall under various sections including murder in the second degree (565.021), armed criminal action (571.015), unlawful possession of a firearm (571.070), unlawful use of a weapon (571.030), and first-degree tampering with physical evidence (575.100).
