Valparaiso's Mia Green Cleared for Takeoff: Teen Earns Scholarship, Chases Dreams in the Sky

VALPARAISO, Ind. - TelAve -- Mia Green of Valparaiso has been awarded a scholarship from the Lyons Aviation Foundation to support her pursuit of a Private Pilot License at Eagle Aircraft Flight Academy.

For Mia, aviation is more than an ambition—it is family legacy. Inspired by her father, a professional pilot, she set her sights on the cockpit at an early age and has been working steadily toward that future ever since.

Her preparation has been exceptional. Mia completed aviation ground school through her high school, attended the Aviation Summer Academy at Saint Louis University, and recently reached a major milestone by completing her first solo flight this month. She now plans to earn her Private Pilot License within the year.

What sets Mia apart is that she is already giving back to the next generation of aviators. For more than two years, she has served as an Aerospace Education Officer with the Civil Air Patrol, teaching younger cadets pre-flight procedures, leading flight simulator sessions, and recently helping a local American Heritage Girls troop earn its Aviation Badge.

Her accomplishments extend well beyond aviation. Mia is also a member of the Indiana Ballet Theatre Company and performs as a violinist in her high school orchestra and jazz band. Years of dance and music have sharpened the discipline, precision, and focus that translate directly to success in the cockpit.

Her goal is a professional career in aviation, perhaps for NOAA, or NASA, as a continuation of her service in the Civil Air Patrol.  Whatever she chooses, she has proven herself capable of succeeding in an aviation career her family will be proud of. The Lyons Aviation Foundation is honored to be part of that story.
