Whirlpool Brand and Premier Lacrosse League Announce Chicago River Stunt in Celebration of the League's Highly-Anticipated Return

CHICAGO, July 10, 2025 ~ As the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) prepares to return to Chicago for the first time since 2019, Whirlpool brand is making sure it will be a memorable experience for fans. The proud sponsor of the PLL has announced plans to transform the Chicago River into a floating arena for a two-day series on July 11-12 at Northwestern Medicine Field.

Lacrosse enthusiasts are in for a treat as they will witness the first-ever professional lacrosse game played on a river. The field will be constructed on an iconic Chicago River Tour Boat, which will embark on a three-hour loop around the river starting from 900 W Wells. The boat will make extended stops at various locations along the River Walk and near the World of Whirlpool in the historical Reid Murdoch building, allowing passersby to catch a glimpse of PLL players showcasing their skills.

This unique installation is just one example of Whirlpool brand's commitment to supporting PLL and its efforts to expand access to lacrosse in communities where its leagues are based. In addition, Whirlpool brand has also announced its support as a founding partner of the Women's Lacrosse League (WLL), set to launch in late 2024.

Paul Rabil, co-founder and president of the Premier Lacrosse League, expressed his excitement about this event, saying, "We're putting a lacrosse field on a river boat and playing 3v3 in the heart of downtown Chicago – how cool is that? This event is celebrating our sport in a way only PLL can. Big thanks to Whirlpool brand for helping us make this vision a reality."

Emily Spaeter, Integrated Brand Manager at Whirlpool brand, also shared her enthusiasm for this unique activation. "The sheer novelty of playing a land sport on water is inherently fun, and this activation brings a fresh twist on one of the fastest-growing sports," she said. "Everyone loves the Chicago River; it's one of the heartbeats of the city. As a sponsor of the PLL and founding partner of the WLL, Whirlpool brand is excited to welcome the league back to Chicago."

This is not the first time Whirlpool brand has teamed up with PLL. In 2023, they welcomed the league's eight teams to their home markets and have since become the inaugural founding partner of the Maryland Whipsnakes. They are also a founding partner of the WLL and work together with PLL to expand access to lacrosse through equipment restoration and community and social responsibility endeavors.

Whirlpool brand, a leading kitchen and laundry appliance brand, along with its in-house agency WOW Studios, wanted to make a splash in welcoming PLL back to Chicago by creating an activation that excites everyone about the upcoming games.

For those who cannot attend in person, the best public viewing area will be along the Chicago Riverwalk, located across from World of Whirlpool in the historical Reid Murdoch building between North LaSalle Drive and North Clark Street at 1:30 p.m. CT.
