Canadian artist Graham Watts has created a solution—at least for the wall.The newly launched ArtOfWhistler.ca is an independent collection of Whistler art, framed travel posters and mountain-inspired wall art designed around a simple idea:

Take Whistler home.

Rather than another generic ski-resort souvenir, the collection draws on Watts' years living and creating in British Columbia's Sea-to-Sky region and his experience painting the mountains surrounding Whistler. The site features recognizable landscapes including Black Tusk, Fissile Peak, Blackcomb Mountain and Whistler Blackcomb, offered as both framed and unframed destination posters.

"Whistler has a strange ability to stay with people," says Watts. "It might be your first view of Black Tusk, an unforgettable powder day, a family ski holiday or years spent living here. I wanted to create artwork that brings some of that feeling back when you look at it at home."

Not Just a Souvenir

ArtOfWhistler.ca grew from Watts' original mountain paintings and translates his painter's approach to shape, colour, light and landscape into the visual language of classic Canadian travel posters.

The result sits somewhere between travel memory and contemporary wall art.

"I don't really think people are buying a picture of a mountain," Watts says. "They're buying the memory attached to it."

Whistler Art Created by Someone Who Knows the Mountains

Watts is a Canadian oil painter whose work includes mountain landscapes, wildlife and Vancouver cityscapes. His Whistler collection comes from years of observing the peaks, light, weather and geometry of the Coast Mountains.

"Mountains change constantly," Watts says. "The shape may be permanent, but the light, snow, cloud and atmosphere change by the hour. That's what makes them endlessly interesting to paint."

The new site is aimed not only at Whistler visitors, but also at former residents, skiers, snowboarders, second-home owners and anyone who has developed a lasting connection with the resort.

Current designs are available as ready-to-hang framed posters and 12 × 18-inch unframed posters, with purchasing handled through Watts' Canadian online store.
