Why Not God? written for all who seek deeper understanding
TelAve News/10894553
SHERMAN, Conn. - TelAve -- A Connecticut man who converted to Christianity in his 30s has written a book that he will use to spread the Word to believers and non-believers alike.
Charles Mastroni, now a lay leader with many years of practice, spent his early life searching for meaning.
After years of empty connections, Mastroni said, "I started looking for a different kind of relationship. I really started feeling a hunger for a wife, someone I could love and who loved me, who I could have a meaningful relationship with. I prayed that for years not even sure how prayers would be heard. God answered those prayers as only He can. I ended up meeting someone at a bar -- she was not a regular! We married and had a baby, and I realized I didn't want our child to be raised with an idea of right and wrong that came from mom and dad. I wanted it to be on a footing higher than the parents."
He was influenced by author Timothy Keller, who wrote a book for religious skeptics. Mastroni began to study the Bible, compare it to what he heard in church, and pondered a better way to communicate about Christian teachings.

The result is Why Not God? (https://emeraldlakebooks.com/store/Why-Not-God-p829184053), published by Emerald Lake Books®, a hybrid publisher in Sherman, CT. We all believe in something, and the book explores how we come to our worldview.
Mastroni constructed the book around the TAKES model, which explores worldviews in the context of theology, anthropology, knowledge, ethics, and salvation. This approach allows for clear explanation of Christian foundational beliefs, as well as addressing "present stumbling blocks for many people."
He wrote that he wants to offer readers "space to think without pressure, explore without fear, and reconsider God without abandoning their intellect."
Mastroni said taking a reasoned approach was important to him.
"In a lot of churches, I'm not sure they teach traditional theology and whether the bible is the word of God or not," he said. "I tried not to use a lot of religious terminology in the book. If you go to church and you're familiar with Christ's teachings, you probably understand Christian terminology, but that's lost on people who don't regularly attend. I think that's the biggest problem facing the church, because many Christians don't understand how to talk to people without using the jargon."

Mastroni has served as a guest preacher at many churches, and he is Deacon Emeritus at The Sherman Church.
"Through an excellent preacher, I came to know Christ," Mastroni said. "I became more and more convinced and more believing. This was all part of God leading me along."
