Woodward Sports Co-Founder Joey Namou Acquires Majority Stake, Named CEO
ROYAL OAK, Mich. - TelAve -- Woodward Sports today announced that co-founder Joey Namou has acquired a majority stake in the company in a seven-figure transaction and has been named Chief Executive Officer, marking a new chapter for Detroit's leading digital sports media platform.
Since its launch in 2020, Woodward Sports has grown into a premier destination for sports content, reaching more than 700,000 followers and generating millions of monthly views across its video, social, and podcast platforms. Built on a highly engaged, predominantly Detroit-based audience, the network continues to expand its influence across the region's sports and culture landscape.
With Joey Namou assuming majority ownership, the company is focused on accelerating growth, expanding its content offerings, and deepening its connection to the local community.
Namou, widely known as "Joey Radio," brings nearly 15 years of experience in Detroit media. A graduate of Brother Rice High School and alumnus of Oakland University, he originally pursued a career in accounting before earning an internship with iHeartRadio's Mojo in the Morningon Channel 955. That opportunity helped launch his career in media, marketing, and entrepreneurship, ultimately leading to the founding of Woodward Sports in 2020.

"From day one, our goal was to build a platform that truly represents Detroit sports fans," said Joey Namou, CEO for Woodward Sports. "The support we've received from this city over the past five years has been incredible. As we move forward, we're focused on growing Woodward Sports into something even bigger, not just in sports, but in culture, community, and storytelling."
As part of its continued growth, Woodward Sports has relocated its headquarters to a new, expanded studio in downtown Royal Oak, located at 108 S. Main Street. The nearly 3,500-square-foot space is designed to support increased live programming, content production, and brand partnerships, and represents a significant expansion from the company's previous location.
All programming broadcasts live from the Planet Fitness Studio, with Planet Fitness serving as the presenting sponsor.
Sam "Stick" Day, a founding partner in Woodward Sports, will continue working alongside Namou as part of the leadership team, contributing to programming, content development, and overall network growth.
"Woodward Sports has always been about the fans," said Darren McCarty, Woodward Sports personality, and four-time Stanley Cup Champion. "It's for the people. With Joey and Stick leading this next phase, the vision is only getting bigger, and it's exactly what this city deserves."
