Yonkers, NY ~ Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano, in partnership with the Yonkers Kiwanis Club and the Yonkers Board of Education, has announced the upcoming 2026 Teacher of the Year Awards. This prestigious award, which has been celebrating excellence in education since 1956, will be presented to three deserving members of the Yonkers Public Schools faculty.
The selection process for these awards involves a committee comprised of members from both the Yonkers Kiwanis Club and Trustees of the Board of Education. They will carefully review nominations submitted by students, parents, teachers, and administrators from today until February 2 on the city's website, www.yonkersny.gov/teachers.
Mayor Spano expressed his appreciation for teachers and their impact on the community. He stated, "Teachers are the heartbeat of our community. Their influence goes beyond the classroom walls and shapes lives in ways that last a lifetime." He also emphasized that this award is a joint effort between the city, Kiwanis Club, and Board of Education to honor these everyday heroes who inspire and uplift students.
The three honorees will represent elementary, middle, and high school levels within Yonkers Public Schools. To be eligible for this award, teachers must have at least five years of employment within the district and demonstrate dedication to their profession. They must also have initiated new programs or shown innovation in existing ones while being actively involved in their community.
