After Racism Online Left Their Child in Tears Two Parents Built the Social Network They Wished Exist
TelAve News/10906523
More than 100,000 people registered for early access to Yelling Ant® before its public launch. The platform is now live in 127 countries.
PHOENIX - TelAve -- When Susan and Darryl Mobley's young child came to them distraught after experiencing racism online, what was wrong with social media stopped being an abstract conversation. It was sitting in their living room.
For Susan and Darryl, that raised a bigger question: How can communities that contribute so much to the culture of the internet have so little say in the digital spaces where that culture is seen, shared, shaped, and monetized?
They decided to stop waiting for the existing social media platforms to fix themselves. They built it themselves.
That idea became Yelling Ant®, a social network that is AI-powered and centered on the interests and experiences of Black and Brown people across the diaspora, while welcoming everyone.

Today, Yelling Ant is live in 127 countries, and more than 100,000 people registered for early access before its public launch.
Creators, entrepreneurs, organizations and everyday users can spend years building audiences on social platforms, yet still depend on an algorithm to decide whether the people who chose to follow them actually see what they post.
"Think about what we've all accepted as normal," said Co-Founder Darryl Mobley. "You build the audience. You create the content. You start the conversations. You bring people to the platform. Then an algorithm decides whether the people who asked to hear from you actually do. We believe Yelling Ant is a better way."
AND NOW AI IS RAISING THE STAKES
Social media already influences which voices are amplified, which businesses are discovered, which conversations spread and how people see one another.
As algorithms and AI play an ever-larger role in deciding what people see, read and believe, Susan and Darryl believe the question of who builds these systems, whose perspectives they reflect and whose stories they amplify has become even more urgent.

"We should not have to disappear inside somebody else's definition of who we are," Susan Mobley said. "We deserve spaces where our communities can show up fully, find one another, and have a real voice in shaping what comes next."
