Applicants Sought for Tacoma Public Library Board of Trustees

~ The Tacoma City Council is currently seeking qualified individuals to fill two vacant positions on the Library Board of Trustees. This board, which oversees the operations of the Tacoma Public Library, is made up of five members who are nominated by the Mayor and appointed by a majority vote from the City Council. The term for these positions is five years and all trustees must reside within Tacoma city limits.
As the governing body of the library, the Board of Trustees holds authority over policies and budgets and also appoints the Library Director. The mission of Tacoma Public Library is to "empower our community by bringing people together to discover, connect, create, learn, and thrive." Interested applicants can find more information about the library at tacomalibrary.org.
In line with their commitment to promoting equity and anti-racism within the city, Tacoma is encouraging individuals from diverse backgrounds to apply for these vacancies. This includes BIPOC individuals, LGBTQ+ individuals, those with disabilities, seniors, youth, immigrants, and refugees.

Applicants who are appointed will be required to complete training on Open Public Meetings Act and Public Records Act within 90 days of their appointment. These trainings will be provided by the Washington State Office of the Attorney General.
