Arizona: Governor Katie Hobbs Announces Support for Transwestern's Desert Southwest Pipeline Expansion

Phoenix, AZ – Today, Governor Katie Hobbs announced her support for Transwestern Pipeline's planned Desert Southwest Pipeline expansion, a transformative infrastructure project set to enhance Arizona's energy landscape, drive economic growth across the state, and help to deliver a reliable energy future.

"Ensuring reliable and affordable energy for Arizona's families and businesses is a top priority for my administration," Governor Hobbs said. "With existing pipelines fully subscribed, securing additional natural gas capacity is critical to supporting Arizona's long-term prosperity. The Desert Southwest Pipeline will significantly increase our state's energy capacity and diversify our energy resources. Arizona's all-of-the-above energy strategy is ensuring we have the energy we need to expand our economy and deliver for working people in this state.

"Arizona continues to grow. And our growth will only further increase energy demand. Desert Southwest ensures that during periods of high demand, we have the energy we need to meet it."

Governor Hobbs also emphasized the pipeline's role in advancing Arizona's pursuit of a modern, innovative economy.

"The key to a thriving and booming economy is an all-of-the-above energy strategy that strengthens reliability and affordability," Governor Hobbs said. "With this project, Arizona is taking a bold step to attract additional investment that will create new economic opportunities for future generations of Arizonans.

"The Desert Southwest Pipeline will provide a critical energy backbone that enables our existing businesses to grow and thrive, while ensuring Arizona remains an attractive destination for high-tech manufacturing, the booming clean energy economy, and the technology and innovation sector."

Arizona Commerce Authority President and CEO Sandra Watson echoed Governor Hobbs' sentiments.

"Arizona's historic economic momentum has been fueled by our best-in-the-nation energy reliability and infrastructure leadership," Watson said. "Transwestern's Desert Southwest Pipeline expansion is an important investment in Arizona's future and the continued growth of our dynamic high-tech economy."

In addition to long-term economic benefits, Governor Hobbs highlighted the pipeline's commitment to supporting good-paying jobs.

"This project is about more than just infrastructure—it's about investing in our workforce and supporting Arizona families," Governor Hobbs said. "The Desert Southwest Pipeline expansion will create hundreds of good-paying jobs with strong wages and benefits, ensuring our workers are valued and that prosperity is shared across our communities."

Mike Dea, business manager and secretary-treasurer of LIUNA Local 1184, praised the project and Hobb's leadership.

"Whether it's building our state's critical transportation or energy infrastructure, LIUNA Local 1184 takes great pride in the role our members play in supporting Arizona's overall prosperity," Dea said. "We stand in strong support of Transwestern's Desert Southwest Pipeline expansion and applaud Governor Hobbs for standing with the working families of Arizona."

Governor Hobbs concluded by stressing the collaborative nature of the project.

"Together, we are laying the foundation for a stronger, more resilient, and more prosperous state," Governor Hobbs said. "I look forward to working with my peers in New Mexico and Texas to ensure the successful completion of the project."
