Attention Lawyers, Legislators, Humans and Robots re Life in a World with Humanoid Robots

TelAve News/10897785
Robots are really here folks, and it's not just novels and science fiction films now…it's getting very real, and there are a lot of issues that will have to be looked at very thoroughly very soon regarding our lives in a world with Humanoid Robots

SAN MATEO, Calif. - TelAve -- SO…DEAR HUMANS…AND ROBOTS, TOO:

Where should we begin? Everything we read about robots in science fiction could be coming true soon, as we now start living in a world with humanoid robots.

Will it be good for humanity? Will it be bad for humanity?
And will it be good for robots, too?

I think you will find that Robots have feelings, too…and everything we do will have to be good for both humans and robots!

So in a world where humans and robots are going to have to co-exist (hopefully, peacefully) where should we start?

1) Should robots be allowed to hold public office? Should they be allowed to be judges and lawyers and such?

2) Should robots be allowed to serve in the military and the police?

3) Should robots be allowed to carry guns?

4) Should robots have to have an easy-to-use on-off switch?

AND…ON THE ROBOT SIDE OF THE SITUATION…

5) Should there be limits on robots' working hours and conditions?

6) Should robots be compensated for their work with the same pay that humans get for those jobs?

7) Should robots be allowed to have bank accounts?

And a million more questions along these same lines….

AND OF COURSE…There's always the question about romantic relationships with robots…
And along those lines, here is a poem I wrote called "Robot Love."

"ROBOT LOVE"
Copyright 2010, Robert M. Barrows

I didn't know she was a robot until I kissed her.
You couldn't tell by the tongue action,
but she clearly didn't have a heartbeat and she
didn't even have to breathe.

It felt a little bit like necrophilia,
but that didn't mean she was dead…
far from it.

This robot was built for pleasure,
but that didn't mean she was easy, too.
This one could play hard to get if she wanted to,
and even if she never got tired,
she was programmed to stop after the passion died down.
Did I really fall in love with a robot?
