OAKLAND, Calif. - TelAve -- Oakland, CA — Farms to Grow, Inc. invites the public to a powerful Black History Month program, Black History in Agriculture, featuring two trailblazers whose work has shaped the landscape of Black farming in America. The virtual event will take place on February 22nd from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM (PST) on Zoom.
The program will highlight the life and leadership of Mr. Will Scott Jr., an 85‑year‑old farmer, founder of Scott Agriculture, and co‑founder of the African American Farmers of California. Mr. Scott has dedicated his life to cultivating land, community, and opportunity for Black farmers across generations. His firsthand insights into the challenges and triumphs of Black agriculturalists offer an invaluable window into American history.

Attendees will also experience a screening of the award‑winning documentary Rhythms of the Land, created by Dr. Gail Myers—anthropologist, filmmaker, and co‑founder of Farms to Grow, Inc. The film is a moving tribute to the legacy, resilience, and cultural contributions of Black farmers, sharecroppers, and land stewards whose stories have long been overlooked.
This event honors the deep agricultural roots of Black communities and uplifts the voices of those who continue to preserve and protect this heritage.
