Book From Dawn Smith Empowers First-Time Wedding Officiants with Confidence, Clarity, and Compassion
TelAve News/10887415
LOS ANGELES - TelAve -- Rev. Dawn Smith, an interfaith minister, relationship coach, and nationally recognized speaker, has released a new book designed to guide first-time wedding officiants through one of life's most meaningful — and intimidating — roles.😍
So You Think You Want Your Friend to Marry You… is now available on Amazon and offers practical, emotional, and legal guidance for anyone asked to officiate a wedding for friends or loved ones. Drawing on more than two decades of experience and work with over 1,000 couples, Rev. Dawn demystifies the process and helps officiants show up with confidence, authenticity, and respect for diverse traditions.
"So often I hear of couples asking a friend or family member to officiate because they want something heartfelt from someone who knows them closely," says Rev. Dawn. "But once diving in, the couple and their chosen person often realize there's more to consider than that. The stakes are high, and it can feel overwhelming- that's why I put together this guide."

The book covers ceremony structure, legal considerations, emotional boundaries, cultural and faith-based rituals, and common mistakes first-time officiants make — often without realizing it. Smith's approach blends compassion with clarity, offering readers both practical tools and reassurance.
Rev. Dawn is an Atlanta- and Los Angeles–based trilingual (Spanish, French, English) interfaith minister ordained by The New Seminary for Interfaith Studies in New York. Her background includes decades of social justice and community organizing work, including founding J.U.i.C.E., a violence-prevention hip-hop youth center in 2001. She currently serves as Director of Whole Life Solutions, providing career transition and relationship coaching for individuals and couples.
A sought-after writer and speaker, Dawn''s work has been featured by the Gottman Institute, and she has partnered with organizations including CreativeMornings, UCLA, USC, Team Rubicon, UNICEF, Wedding Wire, and Perfect Wedding Guide. She recently took the TEDx stage to challenge outdated relationship myths.
