Boston: Independence Day Events to Commemorate America's 250th Anniversary

Event schedule ~ Boston, MA - As the nation prepares to celebrate its 245th Independence Day, the city of Boston is gearing up for a special 250th Fourth of July celebration. Mayor Michelle Wu announced that Boston will be hosting this year's festivities, honoring the city's role in leading the fight for independence from tyranny 250 years ago.
"Boston is proud to have been at the forefront of the fight for independence and our citizens continue to embody that revolutionary spirit today," said Mayor Wu. "We are excited to welcome Bostonians and families from across the country to join us in honoring our history and looking towards a bright future."
The event schedule for Saturday, July 4th includes a parade, a Halt of Honors ceremony at Old Granary Burying Ground, a reading of the Declaration of Independence from the Old State House Balcony, and an Independence Day Oration at Faneuil Hall.
The parade will feature historic organizations, military units, veterans groups, civic organizations, musicians, and community participants as it makes its way from Copley Square through downtown Boston. The parade will begin promptly at 9 a.m. from Copley Square and will pause at 10 a.m. at Old Granary Burying Ground for the traditional Halt of Honors ceremony.

During this ceremony, Colonel Lee Fife will read biographies of notable patriots while wreaths are placed at the graves of Samuel Adams, John Hancock, Robert Treat Paine, Peter Faneuil, and Crispus Attucks.
At 10:15 a.m., members of the public are invited to gather outside the Old State House for the annual reading of the Declaration of Independence from its historic balcony. The ceremony will include a trumpet call and a performance of "God Bless America" by Boston Police Officer Stephen McNulty. Mayor Wu will also give remarks before Captain Commanding of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company reads the Declaration of Independence. The ceremony will conclude with patriotic music performed by the Zarba Military Band.
The annual Independence Day Oration will take place at 11 a.m. in Faneuil Hall, featuring musical performances by the Zarba Military Band, remarks from Mayor Wu, and a featured Independence Day Oration. The program will also include additional observances honoring the nation's founding and Boston's historic contributions to American independence.
The parade route will begin at Copley Square and proceed down Boylston Street, turning left onto Tremont Street before ending at Court Street. Residents and visitors should expect temporary street closures, parking restrictions, and traffic delays in the vicinity of the parade route and staging areas throughout the morning.
