~ On Thursday, January 22, 2026, the Governor of Massachusetts will be delivering the State of the Commonwealth Address at the State House in Beacon Hill. In preparation for this event, parking restrictions will be in place on Beacon Street from Spruce Street to Walnut Street on the south side (Boston Common side) for security purposes. This will allow for extended authorized parking hours on that day.
In addition, on Saturday, January 17, 2026, Project 351 will be hosting an event at Faneuil Hall in Downtown Boston. This program brings together volunteers from every city and town in Massachusetts to participate in youth service activities and honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. To facilitate this event, parking restrictions will be put in place on North Street from Congress Street to Clinton Street on the south side (Faneuil Hall side) and Congress Street from State Street to North Street on the east side (Faneuil Hall side). This will allow buses to access Faneuil Hall.

Meanwhile, in Roslindale, the Canterbury Street Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic starting Friday, September 12 at 9:00 p.m. The closure is due to findings from a recent bridge inspection and it is expected to last until further notice. Pedestrian access will still be available but drivers should follow detour signage in place. The primary detour route will utilize Hyde Park Avenue, Cummins Highway, Rowe Street, Brown Avenue, and Seymour Street with eastbound traffic following Seymour Street to Brown Avenue to Cummins Highway and westbound traffic following Hyde Park Avenue to Cummins Highway to Rowe Street to Seymour Street.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) advises drivers traveling through these areas during these events or closures should expect delays and reduce speed while using caution. To help alleviate traffic congestion during these times, people are encouraged to walk or bike or take public transit instead of driving. Information on Bluebikes, the regional bike share service, can be found on their website and information on the MBTA can be found online. The MBTA also advises riders to purchase a round-trip ticket for a faster return trip. Walking is also a great way to move around and explore these areas.
